The lawsuit filed by Vanessa was also seconded by fellow co-plaintiff, Christopher Chester, claiming that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s and Fire Department, had circulated pictures of the deceased insensitively.

After quite a few years of hard struggle, Vanessa and Chester ultimately prevailed against the Sheriff’s and the Fire Department officials as the verdict went in their favor, as the Court ordered the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s and Fire Department were asked to pay $29 million as damages.

“Today marks the successful culmination of Mrs. Bryant’s courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in this grotesque conduct,” Luis Li, an attorney representing Bryant, said in a statement to CNN. “She fought for her husband, her daughter, and all those in the community whose deceased family were treated with similar disrespect. We hope her victory at trial and this settlement will put an end to this practice.”

Both the plaintiffs had claimed in the lawsuit that the circulation of the pictures in public caused them mental agony and distress apart from violating their rights to privacy, which has been upheld by a Los Angeles Court.
