Lakers outsmart Memphis Grizzles to enter the fourth quarter riding on Rui and Reeves’ shoulders. They braved the odds as LeBron James sat out the match and Anthony Davies left with an injury to overpower the Grizzles 128-112. The team unsettled the No.2 seeded Memphis Grizzles to take a 1-0 lead as they led their pursuit of being crowned the champions. The Lakers closed the win with a 15-0 run to cap a dominant second half fueled by red-hot shooting from beyond the arc. The run blew open a game the Lakers led 113-112 with 3:11 remaining.

Lakers outsmart Grizzles against all odds

The Lakers, meanwhile, followed a 5-for-18 3-point shooting mark at halftime with a scorching second half led by Hachimura and Reaves to steal Game 1 on the road. Hachimura, acquired from the Washington Wizards in January, scored a game-high 29 points while shooting 11-of-14 from the field and 5-of-6 from behind the arc. Back-to-back Hachimura 3s helped the Lakers to a 91-85 lead as they notched 37 points in the third quarter. His previous career high with the Lakers was 20 points.

Lakers got Grizzles in a tricky situation with the loss

The win cemented their position after the deadline of the trade window while the Memphis Grizzles incurred the 7th loss of the season but still held on to their league-best record of 35-6. However, Morant’s injury does happen to be a shot in the arm for them as they look to avoid a 0-2 hole at any cost. Morant left the game after a hard fall on his right hand late in the fourth quarter. With 5:48 remaining, he attacked the basket and fell to the court after making contact with Anthony Davis on an offensive foul.

Lakers happened to provide the much-needed momentum with their win over the Grizzles handed them the win as they defeated a higher-seeded team in the last 13 years. He pointed out that L.A.’s 16 turnovers led to 15 points for the Grizzlies and took responsibility for the five he had himself.
