K-pop star Moon Bin and member of the band Astro passed away much to the shock and dismay of his fans. The entire incident left his worldwide followers and admirers in a state of shock and grief. The star was found dead in his home in southern Seoul by his manager at around 8:10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to an official at Gangnam Police Station. Social media was filled with condolences as fans expressed their upset at his death, the latest news to cast a spotlight on the often intense pressures celebrities face in the competitive and stressful Korean entertainment industry.

Condolences pour in for Moon Bin

Local media, citing the police, reported that Moonbin had been found unresponsive on Wednesday evening in his apartment in the upscale Gangnam neighborhood of Seoul. “All Astro members, Fantagio colleagues, executives and employees who’ve been together for a long time are deeply mourning the deceased in such great sadness and shock,” the music label said, adding Moon Bin “always loved and thought of the fans more than anyone else.”

Moon Bin, who also performed as Moonbin was also a member of the boy band Astro and also performed with subgroups Moonbin and Sanha. He joined the Fantagio label’s trainee program at an early age and was an actor and model before debuting with Astro in February 2016. The group was originally six performers, but one member left in February 2023. Moonbin’s sister Moon Sua is also a K-pop singer, performing as part of the girl group Billie. “So sorry for the loss of one of the most beautiful souls I’ve met through music! Prayers to his family and friends and employers and fans!” one user responded on Twitter to Fantagio’s post.

Several other young K-pop stars have died in recent years, including Goo Hara in November 2019. She had been abused by an ex-boyfriend who, after they split, blackmailed her over their sex videos.
