India and Pakistan meet – Neighbours at Arms

The India and Pakistan meet of the External Affairs Minister S Jayashankar and Pak Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto can be considered historic, given the fact that both countries have been sharing a rocky relationship since birth. Things had turned sour since then and have been on a slippery slope with incessant terrorist attacks on India orchestrated from Pakistani soil. However, the meeting should not be mistaken for a bilateral talk that might ensue between the two nations since there hasn’t been any such engagement in the itinerary for both Ministers.

As per the news, Mr. Zardari confirmed that he is looking forward to meeting his Indian counterpart and sharing a few words with each other as issues and blame games keep happening. It is also worth mentioning that Mr. Zardari is in Goa at the invitation of the External Affairs Minister of India, Mr. S Jayashankar.

India and Pakistan meet – Russia too in the picture

It is not just an India and Pakistan meet of ministers in Goa, but the Russian Defence Minister Sergei Lavrov too is gracing the occasion who happened to have had bilateral talks with the EAM of India. Even the foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan have also been the guests in this conclave apart from China.

The India and Pakistan meet happened at the backdrop of the SCO or the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental organization that was established in 2001 consisting of central Asian countries like Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan apart from Russia, India, Pakistan and China. This year, several SCO meets are scheduled in India starting with the foreign ministers meeting in Goa on the 4th and 5th of May.
