Losing our phones is almost a daily feature nowadays. However, almost all our phones have data that are not only important to us but also sensitive, hence, Blocking the lost phone becomes all the more important. Unauthorized access of such data can lead to not only the loss or misuse of private information, but also financial losses as many of us might have encountered in the past.
The Department of Telecommunications has launched the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) website, from where Blocking the lost phone and unblocking the same after being found can be done along with checking the status of any request being made. An IMEI number is unique to each gadget and no two gadgets can have the same IMEI number. However, to interrupt the IMEI number, an expert organization needs to be consulted. Alternatively, a lost phone can also be tracked through the android.com website, after signing in to the Google Account and Clicking on to the Lost Telephone option.
With the introduction of the KYM (Know Your Mobile) App, which is available on both Google Play Store (for Android) and Apple Store (for iOS). This app will help in identifying and checking the IMEI number of a currently used phone or a new phone, to check the authenticity of the handset.
Steps to check the IMEI Number of a handset for Blocking the lost phone
- Dial *#06# through the dial pad of the phone.
- The IMEI number gets displayed on the phone screen.
- Alternatively, to check the IMEI number, Click Here.
If the IMEI number after putting it into the KYM app shows Black listed, Duplicate, or In Use, those handsets should not be used.
Alternatively, the IMEI number can also be blocked, to prevent misuse of the lost phone using the KYM App launched by CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register). Please find below the steps for the same:
