Big Bash League or the Aussie Domestic T20 raises the bar

The Big Bash League came into being since 2011 when T20 Cricket had started to overshadow the longer formats. Towing the lines of the IPL (Indian Premier League), it followed the same auction process and roped in overseas players as well. Although the magnitude or impact of the League has never been the same if compared to the IPL, however controversies have never marred the league, unlike the Indian version. The standard of the players and the level of talent showcased by the players in the League has been top-notch, surpassing all other domestic versions, be it the IPL or the South African or Caribbean T20 Leagues. Even a few Indian Players like Unmukht Chand and Prithvi Shah had also participated in the older editions of the League. Since 2015, Cricket Australia, the Cricket Control Board of Australia initiated the Women’s Big Bash League as well, through which a lot of promising cricketing talents are being bred and nurtured.

Big Bash League: Current Year

Played during the summer months in Australia, with KFC as the title sponsor, the League is currently underway with as the Sydney Sixers take on the Adelaide Strikers today. For Sidney Sixers, who happens to be the most successful team of the Big Bash League, Steve Smith has been a revelation in the current year. He has been at his sublime best which has helped his team to be one of the major contenders for this year’s trophy as well. One of the most talked about shots of this innovative cricketer had been a six that was hit by him almost kneeling down. Given the fact that in this format, batting strokes are more manufactured than the copybook ones, Steve Smith has been the cornerstone of such improvisations.

The current edition of the BBL started on 13th December 2022 and the finals will be played on 4th February 2023 in the home ground of the highest ranked team, as per the convention.
