Aus vs Ind are up against each other in a high-profile four-match Test series for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, starting here on Thursday.“ A test series win in India is more prestigious than the Ashes win”. The statement has been made by the ex-skipper and star batter from Australia, Steve Smith in a media interaction. Such is the level of importance attached by the visiting Aussies for the 4-match Test series in India that got underway in the VCA (Vidharva Cricket Association) stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur.

The Aus vs Ind contest in any format is considered to be the most prestigious and high-profile contest by the experts of the game worldwide, Aussies are desperate to regain their lost glory, especially after they conceded a 2-1 series win to India at their own soil more than 3 years ago.

Aus vs Ind: A battle to reckon with

As the Indian Team look to regain their No. 1 position in the ICC Test ranking and book a place for the World Test Championship Finals coming up in June at The Oval in London, the Aussies are here to regain their lost pride along with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The drubbing that was handed out to them by Team India in 2019 where the tourists won their first ever Aus vs Ind Test series in Australia along with their first ever win in The Gabba in Brisbane, may still be fresh in the minds of the tourists as they look to salvage their pride.

India vs Australia Test Series, termed by one of the greats of the game, Steve Waugh as the “Final Frontier” as the synonym for their Tour of India, victory has eluded them here for a long even though they maintained their World Champion status for more than a decade in the past.

1st Aus vs Ind Test is underway with hosts drawing the first blood

India drew the first blood in the 1st Test against the tourists that got underway in Nagpur on Feb 9th, 2023. Just like any other Aus vs Ind series be it the shorter or the longer version, the fight has already started even before the players took to the field. Almost all India vs Australia series start with the media before the first ball is bowled and this time too, glimpses of the last India vs Australia test in Adelaide took to the media, where Team India were bowled out for a meager 36 runs. However, after the 1st day’s play, things are not going “The Aussie Way”.

Although it is too early to predict a result for the series, Team India gets back their master all-rounder, Ravinder Jadeja, to render his services, who made a dream comeback by taking 5 wickets on the opening day as the visitors were bundled out for 177 runs.
